Carboxypeptidase

Carboxypeptidases are enzymes that catalyze the hydrolytic cleavage of peptide bonds on the C -terminal end. Therefore, they are exopeptidases.

Two eponymous representatives of this group are the carboxypeptidase A ( EC 3.4.17.1, CAS 11075-17-5 ) and carboxypeptidase B ( EC 3.4.17.2, CAS 9025-24-5 ). Both are metalloproteases from their precursors ( Procarboxypeptidasen ) caused by trypsin using limited proteolysis and proteins terminal attack ( exopeptidases ). They are secreted by the exocrine pancreas.

Carboxypeptidase A cleaves after neutral and partly by acidic amino acids. The carboxypeptidase B cleaves after basic amino acids. Carboxypeptidase G2 affects methotrexate poisoning as an antidote by splitting the glutamic acid residue.
