Cardiff Devils

The Cardiff Devils are an ice hockey club established in 1986 the city of Cardiff in Wales. They play in the British Elite Ice Hockey League.

In the 2005/06 season the Club Challenge Cup winner was.

History

The club was one of the leading forces in the British ice hockey shortly after its founding. Back in 1987, played the Devils in the British Hockey League Division One, so in the second division. 1989 Devils won the title and were promoted to the Premier League, in 1990 they were champions in the very first season. In 1993 and 1994 they took the title again. In 1997 they were also champions of the newly formed Ice Hockey Super League.

2001, the club was bankrupt; the expensive Super League players were sold and founded a new team with young players, which (from 1996 to 2005, the second division ) took in the British National League.

In 2003, the Cardiff Devils one of the founding clubs in the Elite League. In the first season they finished fifth and lost in the semifinals of the playoffs against the eventual champions Sheffield Steelers. In the following season they failed in the play-off semi-final, this time against the Nottingham Panthers.

2006 won the Cardiff Devils in the finals against Coventry Blaze the British Ice Hockey Challenge Cup.

In the same year the ice rink Wales National Ice Rink Arena after 20 years homestead abgerissenund opened in following the new stadium, Cardiff.
