Cardiff Naturalists’ Society

The Cardiff Naturalists ' Society is a traditional Welsh natural history society based in Cardiff. It was founded in 1867 thanks to the efforts of Robert Drane. It is locally focused and engaged in the practical study of flora and fauna, environmental issues and geological aspects. She also participates in the biological species detection. Close connections are made to regional academic institutions. Your logo is the Cardiff Castle.

Activities

For its members, the company offers regular lectures at Cardiff Metropolitan University as well as excursions to areas around Cardiff.

The company established in Cardiff the original Cardiff Museum and later the Museum of Wales. The Museum of Wales is home to the library today, the company of about 10,000 volumes.

From 1867 to 1986, the Company issued the annual journal reports and transactions of the Cardiff Naturalists Society. Subjects were scientific articles on geology, archeology and natural history, and book reviews. In the context of the Welsh Journals Online project at the National Library of Wales the expenditure was digitized.

Since 2011, the company gives to a student of the second year of the Cardiff University Biosciences Award annually. It is £ 250.00 and is awarded fieldwork for the best contribution in the project.
