Cardiopteridaceae

The Cardiopteridaceae are a family within the angiosperms ( Magnoliopsida ).

Dissemination

The taxa have their home in temperate, subtropical and tropical areas. Areas are in South America, Africa, Madagascar, Southeast Asia and the Pacific islands as well as in eastern Australia.

Description

The species of the family are often woody or herbaceous climbing plants. Citronella are trees or shrubs. Some species contain latex. The alternate, stalked, simple leaves are palmate in some species. Often the leaf edges are serrated. Stipules absent.

Are formed branched, axillary, zymöse inflorescences. The flowers are hermaphrodite or getrenntgeschlechtig. The small flowers are usually radial symmetry fünfzählig, rarely cruciform. The petals are fused Roehrig. There is only one stamen circle present. The stamens are often adherent to the corolla tube. The two carpels are fused into a superior ovaries, with two differently designed, free stamps. It also forms two bladed Samara ( = samara fruit) or more or less flattened drupes.

System

This family is most closely related to the family of Stemonuraceae. Many taxa were previously provided to the Icacinaceae.

For some authors, the family also consists of fewer species. There are five to six genera and about 43 to 45 species:
