Careless Whisper

Careless Whisper is a pop ballad, which was written by George Michael and Andrew Ridgeley. After the merger of the artist to the duo Wham! the title on the album Make It Big (1984 ) was published in a 6:30 minute long version. Furthermore, appeared in 1984 under the name of George Michael a single version with a length of 5:04 minutes, which was among others in the United States, Great Britain and Switzerland to a number -one hit.

Formation

The song was written in 1981 by George Michael and Andrew Ridgeley at a time when the two musicians with Wham! were not yet active. They recorded a demo, which contained, in addition Careless Whisper Wham Rap also, Club Tropicana and Come On. So they tried to find a record label that released these pieces. Michael, who was still working as a DJ at the time, the piece played on his last working day and was surprised by the positive response of the audience. He was sure that the song would be a hit, but he did not want to sing himself, because he did not hold for talented enough. The release of the song as a single was made under the name of George Michael, because the record company thought that the song was not to Wham! fits.

The song told from the perspective of the lyric ego from the fact that the protagonist is cheating on her and is now plagued by guilt. The text has no biographical background. George Michael remarked in an interview in 1990 that it had startled him, as one could interpret into so many meanings in such a superficial text and referred to this fact as disillusioning for the songwriter. The music video was shot in June 1984 in Miami, Coconut Grove and Watson in Iceland.
