Carey McWilliams (Journalist)

Carey McWilliams ( born December 13, 1905 in Steamboat Springs, Colorado, † June 27, 1980 in New York City, New York) was an American journalist, editor and lawyer.

McWilliams has become known especially for his writings on social issues in California. Examples are the living and working conditions of migrant workers, or the internment of Japanese American citizens in camps during the Second World War.

For twenty years he was editor of the magazine The Nation. His son, Wilson Carey McWilliams (1933-2005) was known as a professor of political science at Rutgers University and as an author.
