Carey Villegas

Carey Grant Villegas is a VFX supervisor who works at Digital Domain, and in 2011 was nominated for Alice in Wonderland for the Academy Award for Best Visual Effects.

Life

Villegas attended Joliet Central High School and studied at the University of St. Francis in Joliet, Illinois. After graduating in 1993, he worked for two and a half years at Editel. He began as an intern in accounting and worked his way up to the special effects artist high. During this time he worked on commercials for Kellogg's, Reebok, Subway and McDonald's spot for the Super Bowl 1995. He moved in 1995 to Los Angeles and started working at Digital Domain. During this time he worked on films such as T2 3 -D: Battle Across Time, The Fifth Element, Titanic and Fight Club. He also led the production of music videos for Michael Jackson, Celine Dion, and the Rolling Stones.

In 1999 he moved to Sony Pictures Imageworks, where he supervisor for films such as I Spy, In Love was responsible in a witch, I Am Legend and Alice in Wonderland as VFX. For Alice in Wonderland 2011 he was nominated along with Ken Ralston, David Schaub, Sean Phillips and for the Academy Award for Best Visual Effects.

In 2011 he moved back to Digital Domain, where he is currently working on an adaptation of Sleeping Beauty titled Maleficent. He is a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, the Visual Effects Society, the International Animated Film Society and the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers.
