Caribbean Airlines is the national airline of Trinidad and Tobago, based in Port of Spain and base on the Piarco Airport.

History

Caribbean Airlines was founded on 27 September 2006 and started operations on 1 January 2007. Considered successor of BWIA West Indies Airways, which ceased flight operations in late 2006. Caribbean Airlines took over the fleet of six Boeing 737-800 and two Airbus A340 -300, the staff and the routes of BWIA. The two A340- 300s were retired shortly thereafter, and since then no more long-haul flights are offered.

October 1, 2007 Caribbean Airlines took over the regional airline Tobago Express completely, already belonged to her from the earlier 45%. This was then completely in the parent company, that does not carry any aircraft operated by more. Destinations

Caribbean Airlines mainly flies to destinations in the Caribbean. Incidents

Caribbean Airlines recorded in its history no fatalities, but an aircraft loss:

  • On July 30, 2011, a Boeing 737-800 overshot with 163 persons on board the Caribbean Airlines flight 523 from New York City, take the runway at Georgetown. The machine was broken into two parts, but there was only one injured.
