Caridea

The Caridea include over 2,500 of the 3,000 designated as shrimp crustaceans. There are mostly small crustaceans with cylindrical carapace. Most Carideaarten live in the sea, including coral reefs and in the deep sea, although there are freshwater species (eg, the freshwater shrimp ( Atyidae ) ).

Features

The first two pairs of legs are available with or without scissors. The third pair of legs is always without scissors. The second segment of the abdomen is spread laterally and extends beyond the rear edge of the first and the leading edge of the third Abdomensegments. The gills are made of a central shaft with rounded branches. The females carry as with all Pleocyemata the eggs until they hatch the larvae Protozoea on her abdomen around with you.

Use

Fishing

A few Carideaarten be caught commercially ( for example, the brown shrimp (Crangon crangon ) ) or in shrimp farms increased ( Macrobrachium rosenbergii eg, Fam Palaemonidae ) and are sought-after delicacies. Most dining " shrimp " but belong to the Penaeoidea and not to the Caridea.

Aquarium maintenance

Some freshwater shrimp and rock shrimp be kept in freshwater aquariums such as the Japanese freshwater shrimp, which is as Algenbekämpferin popular. In saltwater aquariums bang crabs, cleaner shrimp and marble, rocks and partner shrimp, harlequin shrimp and dancing shrimp are kept. The scissors shrimp are also kept in saltwater aquariums, are not among the Caridea.
