Carinthian Blondvieh

Carinthian Blond is an old rustic breeds breed that is in Carinthia, Austria, native.

Features

Uniformly white to yellow maize cattle breed with light muzzle, horns and claws. Cows 500-600 kg, bulls 800-850 kg. The Blondvieh formerly served as draft animals, dairy and meat supplier.

History

Since when has this race, is not clearly understood. Each color variation was formerly a separate breed.

Dr. Adolf Gstirner sees the Blondvieh as a descendant of the Slovenian cattle, which came with the Slavs to Carinthia. By crossing especially with the Gelbvieh ( Würzburg beef) a new race was born. After the cultivars (Good Mariahof at Sankt Salvator ) and the Lavant valley called the Racial regional differences Maria Hofer and Lavanttaler. The Central Committee of the Carinthian Agricultural Society decided at its meeting on March 6, 1890 both races under the name Carinthian Blond cattle together.

On March 25, 1924, the Kärntner Landes- Blonde Cattle Breeders' Association was founded, which should improve the previously poor breeding results. After the Second World War merged with the Association of Carinthian Blond breeders association Southmarch to Blond breeders association, Carinthia and Steiermark.

In 1947, the association of artificial insemination. Already in 1949 were made 9631 inseminations. In Sankt Veit an der Glan own animal breeding hall was built in 1950. In 1970, there were approximately 60,000 Blondvieh in Carinthia. However, the stock fell to only about 100 pieces to 1990. 1994 Blond breeders club was re- founded in 2003 and it was another 500 dams.

In recent years, we have intensive conservation work of the sparse remnants by local clubs (Arche Austria ) and the ÖNGENE.
