Carl August Hagberg
Carl August Hagberg (* July 7, 1810 in Lund, † January 9, 1864 ) was a Swedish linguist.
Hagberg studied at Uppsala University, where he received the lectureship in 1833 for the Greek. 1835-36 he made a trip to Germany and France, moved to Paris in the neo-romantic circles and gave after his return a font, the Om nya franska vitterheten ( Stockholm 1837), out.
Since 1840 professor of modern languages and aesthetics at the University of Lund, began and completed it his masterful translation of Shakespeare (Shakespeare 's Dramatiska arbeten, Lund 1847-51, 12 vols ) and in 1851 one of the Eighteen of the Swedish Academy of Sciences.
Even as a speaker enjoyed great prestige Hagberg. After he had received in 1858 the newly erected Professor of Nordic Languages at the University of Lund, he died on January 9, 1864.
