Carl Barzilauskas

Carl Joseph Barzilauskas ( born March 19, 1951 in Waterbury, Connecticut ) is a former American professional American football player. He played as a defensive tackle in the National Football League ( NFL) for the New York Jets and the Green Bay Packers. Carl Barzilauskas is the nephew of Fritz Barzilauskas, who played for the New York Giants American football.

Playing career

College career

Carl Barzilauskas visited in his hometown high school and was already playing on the school American football. Because of his athletic achievements, he was elected to the national team of New England. Starting in 1970, studied at the University of Indiana and played for the Indiana Hoosiers as a defensive tackle. In the years 1972 and 1973 he was elected to the All- American. In 1973, he played under coach Weeb Ewbank in the Senior Bowl in a college selection team. His last game he played year with a broken foot. His College awarded him in all three game years.

Playing career

Barzilauskas was drafted in 1974 by the New York Jets in the first round in sixth place. With the Jets, he played until 1977 in the defensive line. In 1978 Bazriklauskas moved to the managed by Bart Starr Green Bay Packers. Neither the Jets nor the Packers were able to collect Carl Barzilauskas in the play-offs. Due to a neck injury he had to end his career in 1980.

It also operates in Bloomington a medical supply store and a real estate office. Barzilauskas is Chairman of the Central Indiana Chapter of the National Football Foundation ( NFF). The NFF supports young youth players and operates the College Football Hall of Fame in South Bend, Indiana. Barzilauskas is also president of the Indiana National Football League Players Association, the union of professional football players from Indiana.

Honors

Carl Barzilauskas is a member of the Indiana Football Hall of Fame in 2000 and received the Joe Boland Award. The award is presented to individuals who have made ​​outstanding contributions in the promotion of athletic young people.
