Carl Drews

Carl Drews ( born January 27, 1894 in Berlin, † September 3, 1983 ) was a German cinematographer.

Life

Drew began his career aged 14 as a laboratory technician at the International cinematographers and lighting effects GmbH. Here he became assistant cameraman Franz Mletzko at whose recordings of " news " in the Berlin area, including by misfortune on the track triangle in September 1908.

Between 1914 and 1918 made ​​Drew's military service in the First World War. In 1920 he got his first job as a director of photography in a feature film. Then he stood in numerous productions in various film genres behind the camera.

Mostly he turned innocuous romantic comedies, dramas and rare historical films. His last work was the propaganda film request concert. In 1941 he took a job at at the Imperial Institute for Film and Image in Science and Education. He turned since then only documentaries and continued this activity even after the war continued.
