Carl Friedrich Kotschy

Carl Friedrich Kotschy ( born January 26, 1789 in Teschen, † February 9, 1856 in Ustroń ) was an Austrian Protestant clergyman and botanist. He was a 1848/49 on the Frankfurt National Assembly.

Life

The son of the teacher Johann Gottfried Kotschy studied 1807-1810 theology at Leipzig University and enrolled there as well for the lectures in medicine and botany, a. In Leipzig he belonged to the local student corps.

Since 1810, he practiced in Rhyl from the pastorate. Appeared in 1833 in Brno be revised Lutheran catechism. Kotschy castigated in his writings and sermons mainly drunkenness. He founded in 1811 the Enthaltsamkeitsverein in Rhyl. He belonged to the Reading Association of Silesian pastor and was by 1842 a member of the Gustav -Adolf -Verein. He also belonged to the Silesian Society for customer of the Fatherland in Wroclaw and the Moravian -Silesian Society for the promotion of agriculture, nature and geography in Brno.

Kotschy was one of 2 July 1848 to 30 in 1849 for the constituency of Austrian Silesia with Cieszyn and Bielsko the Frankfurt National Assembly. He was a member of the democratic faction German court. He has voted against the election Friedrich Wilhelm IV Emperor of the Germans.

In addition to other theological writings, a Polish language primer and works of fiction Kotschy also published on science topics. He was a member of the Pomological Society " Van Mons " in Brussels.
