Carl Gustaf Bielke

Carl Gustaf Bielke ( Kaarle Kustaa Bielke ) (* July 12, 1683, † February 11, 1754 ) was a Swedish Count and son of Nils Bielke. According to academic studies, he began to pursue a military career, in which he finished as a major general of cavalry. In war, Charles XII. he was mainly concerned with the recruitment and training of troops. He also played an important role in connection with the defense of Stockholm in 1719. During the same year, he was diplomatic envoy in Paris.

In 1727 he was Landshövding in Västernorrland County, where he campaigned among other things, the expansion of rural roads. During this time, these countries also included Gävleborg and Jämtland. After he had done twelve years as Landhövding his service, he became in 1739 president of the Swedish state Kontor. Bielke was also very politically engaged. So it was during the Age of Freedom member of several diets and a member of the Mösspartei.

He owned, among other Salsta Castle at Vattholma, about 25 kilometers north of Uppsala in Uppland.

Carl Gustaf Bielke married on April 25, 1705 in Stockholm, the Countess Brita Sofia Horn of Marie Borg, born on April 6, 1679, died on 1728 in Gävle. She was a daughter of Admiral Lieutenant Gustav Horn of Marie Borg ( 1651-1686 ) and the baroness Catharina Jakobina Lilliehöök ( 1658-1696 ). They were parents of seven children, of whom one daughter died at the age of 16 years. Only two siblings reached adulthood. Both were born in the year 1706.
