Carl H. Brans

Carl Henry Brans ( born December 13, 1935 in Dallas ) is an American physicist.

Carl H. Brans studied at Loyola University in New Orleans (Bachelor 1957) and in 1961 received his doctorate from Princeton University with Robert Henry thickness. The subject of the dissertation was a modification of general relativity, which is known as Brans Dicke theory today. Later Brans turned to fundamental questions in quantum logic, as well as in the numerical simulation of the general theory of relativity. Since 1992, he is concerned with the topological features in 4- dimensional manifolds, which are known under the term " Exotic Smoothness ". Brans 1960 Instructor at Loyola University, where he in 1970 a full professorship in theoretical physics was awarded. In 1973/74 he was a visiting professor at Princeton University and since 1993 he was a visiting scientist at the Institute for Advanced Study.

He has been married since 1957 and has four children.
