Carl Johan Fahlcrantz

Carl Johan Fahlcrantz (* November 29, 1774 in Stora Tuna in Falun, Sweden, † January 1, 1861 in Stockholm) was a Swedish painter and a representative of the romantic landscape painting.

Life

Fahlcrantz was the son of a minister; He had seven siblings, two of which, the sculptor Axel Magnus Fahlcrantz and the poet Christian Erik Fahlcrantz, were also very well known.

From 1792 to 1802 he studied at the Kungliga Konsthögskolan Stockholm in Stockholm. In 1803 he was there on the recommendation of the sculptor and illustrator Johan Tobias Sergel teachers of the Academy.

Work

Fahlcrantz was known primarily as a landscape painter. In Germany he became famous for his depictions of Esaias Tegnérs Frithiofs saga (1820 ), the lithographed on a reduced scale of the translation of the Skandinavisten Gottlieb Mohnike are added.
