Carl Ludwig Doleschall

Carl Ludwig Doleschall ( born July 15, 1827 in Neustadt an der Waag, † February 26, 1859 in Amboyna, the East Indies ) was an Austrian entomologist.

Ludwig Doleschall was born the son of the Protestant theologian Michael Doleschall. He studied at the universities of Vienna and Bratislava medicine. In 1852 he joined the army as a doctor in the service of the Dutch army.

In addition to his professional activities Doleschall devoted himself intensively to the spinning world. In 1852 he published the standard work Systematic directory of occurring in the empire of Austria spiders, which also occurring in the Hungarian part of the country species were recorded for the first time. At his death he left the National Museum Budapest an extensive collection of beetles.
