Carl Mirbt

Carl Theodor Mirbt ( born July 21, 1860 in free grace, Silesia, † September 27, 1929 in Göttingen ) was a German Protestant Church historian and mission scientists.

Life

Mirbt studied theology from 1880 to 1885 in Halle, Erlangen and Göttingen. During his studies in Göttingen he became a member of the Academic Theology connection Thuringia. In 1888 he received his doctorate at the Faculty of Theology of the University of Göttingen with a dissertation on the topic "The position of Augustine in the Publicistik of the Gregorian church dispute ". Also in 1888 he completed his habilitation in Göttingen for the Church History.

In 1889 he was associate professor of Church history at the University of Marburg in 1890 and full professor there. 1903/ 04 he held the office of the rector. From 1911 until his retirement in 1928 Mirbt was a professor of Church history at the University of Göttingen, where he again 1920/21 served as rector.

1918 Mirbt founded the German Society for Mission Studies, chaired he held until his death. From 1927 to 1929 he was chairman of the Society of Lower Saxon church history.
