Carl Tausig

Carl Tausig (actually Karol Tausig; * November 4, 1841 in Warsaw, † July 14, 1871 in Leipzig) was a Polish pianist, composer and music educator.

Life

Carl Tausig received his first musical instruction from his father, the composer and Thalberg students Aloys T. Tausig ( 1820-1885 ). At the age of 14 he went to Weimar to get lessons with Liszt, whose favorite pupil he was soon.

Tausig made ​​his concert debut in 1858 in Berlin and he went on for two years on tour throughout Germany. In Zurich he met Richard Wagner know and once belonged to his followers. After a stop in Dresden in 1862 he went to Vienna, where, however, he found no recognition. Here he led together with the Brahms Sonata for Two Pianos on April 17, 1864 for the first time.

In 1865 he married Seraphine of Vrábely and settled in Berlin. There he opened a school of higher piano playing. Beginning of the year 1871, he declared himself ready to support Wagner opera festival active, and founded, together with his pupil Countess Marie Schleinitz the Bayreuth Patronatsverein whose board he took over. Shortly before his death he made several acclaimed concert tours through Germany and Russia. He died on July 14, 1871 at the age of 29 years on typhoid fever. He was buried at the Berlin Cemetery Jerusalem and New Church III.
