Carl Verbraeken

Carl Verbraeken ( born September 18, 1950 in Wilrijk Antwerp) is a Belgian composer, pianist and music teacher.

Carl Verbraeken received his first musical diplomas at the Conservatory of Antwerp. Then he made in 1972 a degree in engineering at the University of Louvain, where he subsequently received his doctorate. In 1975 he decided to pursue a musical career, he began studies at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels. He became successively final degrees in music history and theory of harmony (1976 ), piano ( 1977), Chamber Music (1978), counterpoint and piano accompaniment (1979 ), Fugue (1982 ) and composition (1987). Since 1987 Verbraeken is director of the music school in Sint- Pieters- Woluwe.

After his studies, he was until 1989 Professor of Applied harmony at the Royal Conservatory in Brussels. Verbraeken composed around 1000 works for piano, chamber music and orchestra, much of which works with educational character for his students.

Since 2011 he has been Chairman of the Union of Belgian composer.
