Carl Vincent Krogmann

Carl Vincent Krogmann ( born March 3, 1889 in Hamburg, † March 14, 1978 ) was a shipowner, banker and industrialist from Hamburg and during the time of National Socialism, First Mayor of the city.

Life

Krogmann was until 1933, co-owner of the renowned Hamburg-based trading house Wachsmuth and Krogmann, which was mainly active as a bank and shipping company. In 1930 he was elected to the Hamburg Chamber of Commerce. He was a board member of the Hamburg National clubs.

Before the seizure of power by the National Socialists Krogmann, the son of a long-established Hamburg merchant family came, politically not in appearance. While, however, he has been involved in the industrial input, not initially a member of the NSDAP. When, after the takeover of the Hamburg Senate resigned closed, hit Empire and Gauleiter Karl Kaufmann Krogmann before new first mayor. He promised himself by Krogmann a closer bond of Hamburg to the party and the ideology of the Nazis.

Krogmann was elected on 8 March 1933 member of the Hamburg Senate and the Senate for the first mayor. He joined the NSDAP on 1 May 1933. He was member of the delegation to the London Conference (1933 ), a World Economic Conference. On May 18, 1933, he was appointed by the Reich Governor Kaufmann Governing Mayor, from 30 July 1936 he led as a result of political Gleichschaltung only the position as head of the municipal administration.
