Carl Westman

Ernst Carl Westman ( born February 20, 1866 in Falun, † January 23, 1936 in Stockholm) was a Swedish architect.

After studying in Stockholm and a two-year study trip to America 1893-1895 Carl Westman began working in 1897 as an architect in Stockholm. At the beginning he was mainly contracts for villas and facilities. One of his first major works was the home of the Swedish Medical Society in Stockholm, which was built between 1904 and 1906 and is one of the first buildings in the style of the Swedish National Romanticism. Between 1910 and 1914 he built the museum Röhsska Konstslöjdmuseet in Gothenburg and 1911-1915, the Stockholm City Hall, both also in the National Romantic style. Subsequently, he worked primarily as a hospital architect. His last work was the Karolinska Institutet in Solna.

Carl Westman was also an important furniture designers. His furniture was influenced by the British Arts and Crafts movement.
