Carla Thomas

Carla Thomas ( born December 21, 1942 in Memphis, Tennessee) is an American soul singer. It is considered the "Queen of Memphis Soul" ( Queen of " Memphis Soul", also called " Southern Soul ").

Life

At the age of 17, she took the duet Because I Love You on with her father Rufus Thomas, which was a hit in the U.S. South and the record label Satellite ( which later became the legendary soul label Stax Records was created ) gave a first major success.

In 1961 their song Gee Whiz (Look at His Eyes ) the top 10 charts in the categories of R & B and pop and was the first plate of the Memphis soul, the United States - far succeeded. In the following 10 years, found 22 of their singles the way into the national charts, including I'll Bring It on Home to You ( an answer to Sam Cooke's Bring It on Home to Me), Let Me Be Good to You or BABY (of Isaac Hayes ).

Particularly successful were her duets with soul singer Otis Redding, including the hits Tramp (composed by Lowell Fulson ) and Knock on Wood ( Steve Cropper and Eddie Floyd ).

1993 Carla Thomas received a Pioneer Award from the Rhythm and Blues Foundation.
