Carle Vernet

Antoine Charles Horace Vernet, gelegentl. Carle Vernet, ( born August 14, 1758 in Bordeaux, † November 17, 1836 in Paris) was a French painter.

Vernet was the son of the painter Claude Joseph Vernet, and the father of Horace Vernet.

After his first art lessons from his father Vernet went to study the ancient masters there to Rome.

At age 30, he was accepted in 1788 as a member of the École des Beaux -Arts in Paris; 1810 at the Académie des Beaux -Arts.

Vernet was mainly performer Napoleonic battles, but also painted portraits and hunting and excelled especially from in the representation of horses and dogs. Excellent, he is also in the comic genre, and his depictions of contemporary manners images are of cultural historical value.
