Cârlibaba

Carlibaba (deprecated Cîrlibaba; German Kirlibaba or Ludwisgdorf, Hungarian Radnalajosfalva ) is a place and at the same time a municipality in the north -east of Romania in Suceava County. Originally put the place together from parts Carlibaba Nouă ( Ludwig village) and Carlibaba Veche ( Mariensee ).

History

End of the 18th century opened, a mine in the southwest of Bukovina, close to the small settlement Kirlibaba by the Austrian entrepreneur Karl Ritter von Manz Mariensee. The owner got trained workers, especially from the Zips ( German ) and Oberwischau ( Viseu de Sus ), in its operation, and settled them in Ludwig village. Later, German -speaking workers from Upper Silesia, as well as located in the vicinity came to settlements.

With the decline of the mine changed around 1870, the main livelihood of the people: From miners were woodcutters and rafters.

In the most recent census ( 2002), nine percent of the population known to the German nationality. German as a mother tongue according to these data, however, only 5.4 percent.
