Carlo Amoretti

Carlo Amoretti ( born March 16, 1741 Oneglia today Imperia ( Liguria), † March 24, 1816 in Milan ) was an Italian scholar.

Life

Naxhdem the son of a rich merchant had visited the school of Piaristen, Amoretti occurred in 1757 with 16 years in the Augustinian Order one. To deepen his studies, he first went to Pavia, then to Parma. There he soon became advocates of the reforms of the Minister Guillaume You Tillot. After the abolition of the Order in the Duchy of Parma in 1769 Amoretti World clergyman was and received at the University of Parma, a professor of canon law, which he lost Tillotts you like Claude -François -Xavier Millot, Francesco Soave and other supporters of the Minister after the fall. Amoretti settled in Milan, where he was able to secure his living as a tutor in the house of the Marchese Ferdinando Cusani. In addition to numerous other publications appeared in 1779 an Italian edition of the history of art in ancient times by Johann Joachim Winckelmann. 1797 Amoretti was appointed librarian of the Biblioteca Ambrosiana.

Amoretti has made outstanding contribution to the mineralogy as secondly, to palaeography and art history. Since 1808 he was a corresponding member of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences.

The lawyer Maria Amoretti (1756-1787) was his niece.
