Carlo Antonio Bussi

Carlo Antonio Bussi (* 1658 in Bissone, † July 15, 1690 in Vöcklabruck ) was a fresco painter from the Swiss Ticino, in the Baroque period, many churches and monasteries in what is now Upper Austria and Lower Bavaria artistically designed, among other things, the Passau Cathedral.

He was born in 1658 as the second of eight children of the painter Giovanni Francesco Bussi in Bissone on Lake Lugano. Mistakenly also the year 1650 is cited in part. He married in 1682 Margaret, daughter of the famous artist - perhaps even his mentor, but at least idol - Carpoforo Tencalla. After his death in 1685, Carlo Antonio completed the work of his father: the first cycle of frescoes in the choir of the parish church of S. Carpoforo in Bissone and then also the frescoes in the nave of St. Stephen's Cathedral in Passau with the apse fresco. In April 1687, he was awarded the contract for the frescos on the organ concavity, and the four bays of the aisles in the Passau Cathedral, which he completed in the summer of 1688. The following year, he paid the court orchestra of the prince-bishop's residence, which to this day, however, only the ceiling fresco is preserved.

On November 10, 1689 Carlo Antonio accepted the commission for the frescos of Egidius Church ( Dörfel church) in Vöcklabruck. He died, however, surprisingly on July 15, year 1690.
