Carlo Di Palma

Carlo Di Palma ( born April 17, 1925 in Rome, † July 9, 2004 ) was an Italian cinematographer.

Life

Di Palma began in 1942 as an assistant cameraman Aldo Tonti and Domenico Scala and worked about ten years in this capacity with the best camera operators that time. As a camera operator, he worked for some now forgotten films 1951-1954, but also for Carlo Lizzanis Attention! Banditi! . 1956 matured into a director of photography, he turned in the following decades several notable films in which his experimental technique (such as Kapo or Omicron ), but finally came already with black and white films with the breakthrough of the ink film to unfold. Thus benefited works such as The Red Desert or Blow Up (both by Michelangelo Antonioni ) decided by Di Palma's use of chromatography.

1983 Di Palma went to the USA, where he became the master cinematographer Woody Allen.

Mid-1970s, staged Di Palma also themselves; among his three comedies projects Teresa la ladra, from the novel by Dacia Maraini out.

Four times he was awarded the prize Nastro d'Argento Italian film criticism. In 2003 he received a European Film Award for his outstanding contribution to cinema. The prize for the best camera work is named after him. He worked with the most important directors of Italian cinema.
