Carlo Massullo

Carlo Massullo ( born August 13, 1957 in Rome ) is a former modern pentathlete, the 1986 world champion in the individual and in the team competition and won five Olympic medals.

Life

Massullo won his first World Cup medal in 1981, but when he took third place behind Poland and Hungary in the individual ranking No. 21 in the team standings. 1982 and 1983 were victorious in the team standings in each case the athletes from the Soviet Union before the Hungarians. At the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles, the Italians benefited from the Olympic boycott of the Eastern Bloc countries. Daniele Masala won the individual competition with 13 points ahead of Sweden Svante Rasmuson, Carlo Massullo received the bronze medal. The Italian team with masala, Massullo and Pierpaolo Cristofori won gold ahead of the teams from the U.S. and from France.

1985 at the World Championships in Melbourne Massullo occupied the fourth place in the individual competition, the team placed third. 1986 World Cup in Italy took place, namely in Montecatini. Carlo Massullo won ahead of Daniele Masala, together they won the title with the team. It was the only World Cup title, Italy could ever win in the team standings. 1987 Massullo occupied the fourth place in the individual standings.

At the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul Massullo occupied Hungary János Martinek behind the second place in the individual standings, where he, as so often showed his best individual performance in the final cross-country race. Together with masala and Gianluca Tiberti won Massullo in the team standings behind the silver Hungary. 1989 reached Massullo at the World Championships in ninth place in the individual standings and eighth place with the team. In his third 1992 Olympics in Barcelona Massullo occupied twelfth place in the individual standings. In the team competition, he won behind Poland and the United team bronze along with Roberto Bomprezzi and Gianluca Tiberti.
