Carlo Pavesi

Carlo Pavesi ( born June 10, 1923 in Voghera, † March 24, 1995 in Milan ) was an Italian fencer who has won four Olympic gold medals with the sword.

In 1950, he won his first world championship with the Italian team. In 1951 he was in the individual standings behind compatriot Edoardo Mangiarotti Second, in the team final, both documents with their team the French.

1952 in Helsinki Pavesi first participated in the Olympic Games. In the individual competition he finished sixth, while Edoardo Mangiarotti gold and Dario Mangiarotti won silver. Together they defeated the Swedes in the team final.

1953 belonged Pavesi back to the world champion team until 1958, the Italians have won every year now. 1954 Pavesi was again behind Edoardo Mangiarotti second in the individual standings, 1955, he was third behind his compatriots Giorgio Anglesio and Franco Bertinetti.

In the 1956 Olympics he won his second gold medal with the team. In epee individual two days later, there was the curious situation that three Italian fencer, Carlo Pavesi, Giuseppe Delfino and Edoardo Mangiarotti, each with five victories and two defeats were after the final par. After the first round in the playoff had each of the three one win and one defeat. It was midnight when Mangiarotti lost twice in the second stabbing. Ultimately Pavese then won gold against Delfino and Mangiarotti.

With 37 years Pavese once stood at the Olympic Games 1960 in the winning team.

Carlo Pavesi was employed in addition to the sport at Banco Popolare di Vicenza, where he was general manager from 1966 to 1989.
