Carlo Zecchi

Carlo Zecchi ( born July 8, 1903 in Rome, † August 31 1984 in Salzburg ) was an Italian pianist, conductor and music educator.

Life

Zecchi studied in Rome and Berlin, there with Busoni and Schnabel. He has appeared as a conductor in Europe, the Soviet Union, the USA, South America and Japan, as well as a sought pianist he gave numerous concerts with international ensembles. He taught at the Academy of Music in Rome and at the Mozarteum in Salzburg. In later years he was playing the piano largely in favor of conducting activities, and increasingly devoted himself to chamber music, but still occasionally appeared as a pianist. From 1966 to 1976 he was chief conductor of the Vienna Chamber Orchestra. In 1926, he played a 11 works for the Welte-Mignon reproducing piano, which were released in 2005 on a CD in a total publication of his work on 5 CDs.

The huge estate Zecchis is located in the Museo Nazionale degli strumenti musicali in Rome. Since 1986 there are in Rome, the annual " International Competition Carlo Zecchi Rome " for pianists.
