Carlos Baldomir

Carlos Manuel Baldomir ( born April 30, 1971 in Santa Fe, Argentina) is an Argentine professional boxer and former WBC welterweight champion.

Career

Baldomir was founded in 1993 and first professional boxed exclusively in Argentina. 1996, 1997 and 1998, he lost each fighting for the Argentine welterweight championship. In June 1998, he was defeated in only his second appearance outside Argentina in Copenhagen on points against the Dane Søren Søndergaard, against the former lightweight and super middleweight titlist Dingaan Thobela succeeded in South Africa a draw.

He finally managed to qualify for an eliminator fight the WBC Through a long series of successes of eighteen fights without defeat since 1998. Baldomir prevailed there, thereby acquiring the right to be allowed to challenge the welterweight champion Zab Judah. Judah had at this time in addition to the WBC belt and the title of the WBA and IBF. Since Baldomir but only paid the WBC association fees, it went in their duel only to their belt. Baldomir was Judah on January 7, 2006 at New York's Madison Square Garden sensational defeat as underdogs and thus to secure the WBC title, the first major title of his career in his thirteenth year as a pro already.

In his first title defense, he defeated on July 22, 2006 Arturo Gatti by TKO in the ninth round. Next, it came on 4 November 2006 the prestigious clash with the undefeated Floyd Mayweather Jr., to whom he but lost his title due to a significant point defeat.
