Carlos Duarte

Carlos Duarte (born 1 June 1957, Caracas, † April 13, 2003 ) was a Venezuelan composer and pianist.

Life

Duarte had his first piano lessons at Gerty Haas and entered at the age of eleven years for the first time publicly. Five years later, he made his debut with a large orchestra, the Orquesta Sinfónica Venezuela, where he performed his composition Microcom for piano and orchestra.

He continued his piano studies continued with Marek Jablonski in Montreal, Elizabeth Wester fight in Buenos Aires, Jorge Bolet and Alfonso Montecino at Indiana University, Madeleine Malraux and Magda Tagliaferro in Paris and Maria Curcio in London.

Duarte has performed with international orchestras. His repertoire included works by contemporary composers such as Alfred Schnittke, Andrzej Panufnik, Henryk Górecki, Aaron Copland, André Jolivet and Blas Emilio Atehortua. In 1980 he was awarded at the International Piano Competition in Munich in 1989, he was the pianist the Venezuelan price of music criticism.

He worked in Caracas as a professor at the Universidad Simón Bolívar, and was a pianist of Orquesta Sinfónica Municipal. In addition to piano works Duarte composed several theater music and a requiem. He received three times the National Prize for composition.
