Carlos Franzetti

Carlos Alberto Franzetti ( born June 3, 1948 in Buenos Aires ) is an Argentine, living in the United States pianist, composer and arranger.

Life and work

Franzetti learned from six years of music at the National Conservatory in his hometown; later he had private piano lessons. After moving to Mexico in 1970, he began to study composition. In 1974 he moved to the United States and graduated from the Juilliard School in New York City, where he continued his studies in composition with Vincent La Selva.

Throughout his career, created Franzetti symphonies, concert music, opera, chamber music and music for big band jazz. With his wife, the pianist Allison Brewster Franzetti he took in 2011 on the album Alborada. Another duo album ( Duets ) he had recorded with bassist Eddie Gomez in 2009. He also arranged for The Boston Pops, Brooklyn Philharmonic and the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra.

Franzetti also composed numerous film scores, most famously The Mambo Kings (1992 ) with Robert Kraft, as well as for La Película del Rey ( 1986) by Carlos Sorin. For Sidney Lumet's film Q & A ( 1990) he conducted the orchestra.

Awards

His album Tango Fatal won the 2001 Latin Grammy Award for Best Tango Album. In 2003, his album Poeta de Arrabal two Grammy nominations ( Best Classical Crossover Album and Best Instrumental Arrangement). Under his leadership, the Paquito D' Rivera Album Portraits of Cuba, which also won a Grammy arose. Franzetti received two gold records.
