Carlos López Buchardo

Carlos López Buchardo ( born October 12, 1881 in Buenos Aires, † April 21, 1948 ibid ) was an Argentine composer, pianist and music teacher.

López Buchardo had first lessons from his mother, the pianist María Filomena Buchardo and then became a piano student of Héctor Belluci. He continued his piano training at Alphonse Thibaud, a pupil of Camille Saint- Saens ' during its stay in Argentina and studied harmony, counterpoint and composition with Louis Forino. During a stay in Paris in 1909 he continued his studies in composition with Vincent d' Indy at the Schola Cantorum continued.

On his return to Argentina in the premiere of his opera Il Sogno Di Alma led by Tulio Serafín took place in 1914 at the Teatro Colón; sang the title role of Lucrezia Bori. 1920 his only symphonic work, Escenas Argentinas was held at the Teatro Coliseo, headed by Felix Weingartner. Conductors such as Erich Kleiber, Fritz Busch, Victor de Sabata and Wilhelm Furtwängler took the work into their repertoire. He has also performed as a composer of songs like the Seis Canciones argentinas al estilo popular texts by Leopoldo Lugones, Gustavo Caraballo and González López, for which he received the 1925 Premio Municipal de Música of the City of Buenos Aires.

He led at times the music school of the Teatro Colón, in 1923 Director of the Escuela de Bellas Artes of the Universidad de La Plata and in the following year the founding director of the Conservatorio Nacional de Música y Arte Escénico that bears his name today. He was also a member of the Executive Board of the Teatro Colón, president of the Sociedad Nacional de Música and more than thirty years as director of the Asociación Wagneriana. With his wife, the soprano Brigida Frías de López Buchardo he gave concerts in Buenos Aires and throughout Argentina.
