Carlos McKinney

Carlos McKinney ( born January 10, 1973 in Detroit, Michigan) is an American jazz pianist and producer.

McKinney began his musical training at an early age and joined already twelve years old in the band of his uncle Harold McKinney on. At the age of fourteen years he was a member of the band Inner City, two years later, he founded The Legacy Quintet, with whom he produced the album In Mind With You. He then studied at the man's University in New York City, where he got a contract with Motown Records lavel for his band. He also worked as a sideman with musicians such as Elvin Jones, Sonny Rollins, Wynton Marsalis, Branford Marsalis, Kenny Garrett, Roy Hargrove, Wallace Roney and Buster Williams.

Since 1995 he produced with James Mtume the music for the TV series New York Undercover, which gave him the opportunity to work with artists such as Mary J Blige, Luther Vandross, Patti Labelle, Teddy Riley, Blackstreet and Aaliyah. He then signed a contract with Def Jam Records, where he worked with artists such as Neko Case, Montell Jordan, Kandace Love and Redman. With Babyface he produced the songs for the soundtrack of the series Soul Food. In 1999 he played the role of Chester McKinney in the film The Tic Code. Since 2002 he is a producer of the rhythm-and - blues trio Lyric.
