Carlos Morales Troncoso

Carlos Morales Troncoso ( born September 29, 1940 in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic) is a businessman, politician, former Vice President and Acting Foreign Minister of the Dominican Republic.

Biography

Economic activities

After school he studied at Louisiana State University, from which he graduated in 1962 with academic degrees in engineering for chemical and sugar industries. Since 1972 he is member of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (Instituto Americano de Ingenieros Químicos ( AICHE ) ).

After his return to the Dominican Republic in October 1962 he began work as a chemical engineer. First, he was an assistant engineer for plantations and rose after a stint as Vice Chairman from 1970 to 1976, finally in 1976 as Chairman and CEO of Gulf & Western Americas Corporation, and had held that position until 1984.

Subsequently, he was until 1986 a member of the Board of Okeelanta Sugar Company. In the following years he became one of the leading industrial managers in the country and was recently also president of the Central Romana Corporation. He was also one of the founders of the group of sugar -producing countries of the Caribbean ( Grupo de los Azucarero Países de la Cuenca del Caribe (CBI Sugar Group ) ) and more recently its president. He also helped set up the Dominican Sugar Institute ( Instituto Dominicano Azucarero ). In addition, he was in several other sectors of significant influence and promoted as president and treasurer of the Fundación Dominicana Gulf & Western tourism, but also the industrial, economic and social development of the country, particularly the eastern part of the Dominican Republic.

In addition, Morales Troncoso was a member of the Monetary Committee of the Central Bank ( Banco Central de la República Dominicana ). For its economic activities, he has received several awards.

Political career

On 16 May 1986 he was elected as a candidate of the Partido Social Cristiano reform Paulista (PRSC ), Vice President of the Dominican Republic and was thus representative of President Joaquín Balaguer and held this office until 1990. In this role he was also to 1989 Executive Director of the State Sugar Council ( Consejo Estatal del Azúcaar ). After that, he was between 1989 and 1990 also ambassador to the United States.

After his return to the Dominican Republic in 1990 he was under President Balaguer elected vice-president and held this office until the end of the parliamentary term in 1994. Subsequently, he was appointed Foreign Minister by President Balaguer in August 1994 for the first time and held that office until the resignation of Balaguer in May 1996. In this role, he was President of the National Commission of the GATT and in November 1995 President of the Council of Ministers of the Caribbean Forum of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (CARIFORUM ), which occurs as a regional partner in economic Partnership Agreements with the European Union.

On 16 August 2004, he was appointed Foreign Minister by President Leonel Fernández again and heard his cabinet on since then. In this role, he is also a member of the Council of Ministers of the Central American Integration System ( Sistema de Integración de Centro América ) ( SICA ).

On 10 August 2009 he was also elected as the new President of the PRSC.
