Carlos Obregón Santacilia

Carlos Obregón Santacilia ( born November 5, 1896 in Mexico City; † September 24, 1961 ) was a Mexican architect and is considered one of the pioneers of modern Mexican architecture.

Biography

Obregón was the seventh of ten children of the physician Lauro Obregón and his wife María Santacilia y Juárez, the eldest granddaughter of the president Benito Juárez. From 1916 he studied at the Escuela Nacional de Bellas Artes architecture. In 1924 he graduated with the theme " education center " with Carlos Lazo, Manuel Ortíz Monasterio, Manuel Ituarte, Eduardo Macedo y Arbeu and Martínez del Cerro with distinction.

As an architect he planned to its Zurruhesetzung in 1960 around 150 buildings at home and abroad, including some famous buildings in Mexico City, including the Monument of the Revolution. Under Obregón also later known architects, such as José Villagrán García, Enrique del Moral and Juan O'Gorman worked. He was three times president of the Mexican Association of Architects and was also awarded by the Brazilian, Chilean and the Cuban government.
