Carlos Reygadas

Carlos Reygadas Castillo (born 1971 in Mexico City) is Mexican film director, screenwriter and producer. He now lives in Mexico and Spain.

Life and work

He studied law and Carlos Reygadas was 2002 on a promising career as an international lawyer, to devote himself to filmmaking. A strong influence on his film career had this very early Russian filmmaker Andrei Tarkovsky of. Today Reygadas is one of the most daring and most intellectual filmmakers in Latin America. Typical of him is the use of non-professional actors. Battle in Heaven was probably the most talked about film main competition at Cannes in 2005 and divided the critics. For his film, Set Light ( Luz silenciosa ) in 2007 was awarded the Jury Prize Carlos Reygadas in Cannes. Most of the critics Japón (2002) is regarded as his best film so far.

After the short film Este es mi reino, which went up in the omnibus film Revolución (2010), presented Reygadas 2012 his fourth feature film post tenebras lux finished. For this, he worked after, Set light again with cinematographer Alexis Zabe. The action is to be colored partially autobiographical and was shot by Mexico in the visited countries Reygadas England, Spain and Belgium. The exact content is not yet known, however, was defined by the director with " feelings, memories, dreams, things that I gehoffthatte, fears, facts of my present life." For Post tenebras lux Reygadas received in 2012 his third invitation to the competition of the International Film Festival in Cannes, where he was honored with the Best Director Award.
