Carlow

Carlow ( Irish: Ceatharlach; German: "Four Lakes" ) is a town in the southeast of Ireland and the administrative center of the county of the same name. Carlow is also the largest city of the county; its population was determined in Census 2011 with 13,693 people.

Carlow is the seat of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Kildare and Leighlin. The Episcopal Church Cathedral of the Assumption was built from 1828 to 1833.

The city is sung in the Irish Folk Song Follow Me Up to Carlow.

Location

Carlow is in the northwest of his county on the River Barrow, which also forms the border with County Laois here. From the Irish capital Dublin Carlow is located 84 km to the southwest. It is located on the N9 Dublin to Waterford; same time it is on the N80 Tullamore Portlaoise on to Enniscorthy, with connection on the N11 to Wexford and on to Rosslare Harbour.

Twinning

Carlow has twinning closed in 1982 with Dole in Burgundy (France) and in 1998 with Tempe ( Arizona ) (United States ).
