Carlsberg is a municipality in the district of Bad Durkheim in Rhineland- Palatinate. It belongs to the municipality Hettenleidelheim. Carlsberg is a nationally recognized resort.

Geography

The place is situated on the northern edge of the Palatinate forest between the mountain range of the Haardt in the south and the A6 motorway in the north in Leiningerland at an altitude of 285 m.

The municipality consists of the two districts of Carlsberg and Hertlingshausen.

History

The name of Carlsberg, once a scattered settlement is first mentioned in 1754. Count George II of Leiningen was create at the beginning of the 18th century on a cleared area, a settlement for fugitive Huguenots and named the place after 1726 his son Georg Karl I August Ludwig von Leiningen - Westerburg - Neuleiningen.

Older than Carlsberg is his own district Hertlingshausen. In Hertlingshausen was from 1160 the Augustinian Monastery Hertlingshausen, as a branch of the monastery Höningen. This was first mentioned in 1212 as " Hertingeshausen ". After a major fire in 1460 and a sack of 1504 was given to the monastery of 1520/21.
