Carmarthen Town A.F.C.

Carmarthen Town ( officially: Carmarthen Town Association Football Club ) is a football club based in the Welsh town of Carmarthen in the county of Carmarthenshire, the current in the League of Wales, the highest Welsh League, plays.

History

The club was founded in 1948. In the 1995/96 season he won the championship title in the second-rate Football League, Div. 1, and thus succeeded the initial rise in the League of Wales. Since then, the club established there and reached in 1999 and 2004 cup competition in the League Cup in each case the final, was beaten there, however. In 2001, Carmarthen Town part about the league in the UEFA Intertoto Cup, left there, however, already in the first round against AIK Solna from. In the season 2004/ 05 Carmarthen Town reached then the first club title when he the reigning champions, Cup and League Cup winners Rhyl FC defeated in the final of the Welsh League Cup 2-0 after extra time. In addition, Carmarthen Town reached the cup final in Welsh Cup, where he defeated The New Saints FC 0-1 in the same year. By the Cup success Carmarthen Town also managed for the first time qualifying for the UEFA Cup. There in the first qualifying round, scored a 5-1 home win in the return match against the Irish Club Longford Town and thus the place in the next round in which the team against FC Copenhagen but remained scoreless and was eliminated.

In 2007, then succeeded another triumph, this time in the Welsh Cup, where Afan Lido FC was beaten 3-2. This reached Carmarthen Town again to qualify for the UEFA Cup, but failed this time in the very first round at Brann Bergen in Norway. After a fourth place in the 2008/ 09 season the club played in the fight for the top places no longer relevant, but often just barely saved from relegation. In the season 2012/13 Carmarthen Town won the League Cup again in the final against The New Saints FC on penalties and also qualified for the Champions League round of the last six teams.
