Carmela Schmidt

Carmela Schmidt ( born May 16, 1962 in Halle ( Saale) as Carmela Ertel ) is a former German swimmer who competed for East Germany.

At the Olympic Games in 1980 her international swimming career began by winning two bronze medals over 200 meters and 400 meters freestyle. A year later she was able to win her first title at the European Championships with victories over 200 meters and 800 meters. 1982 she succeeded then at the World Championships victory over the 400 meters freestyle track.
