Carmell Jones

Carmell Jones ( born July 19, 1936 in Kansas City (Kansas ); † November 7, 1996 ) was an American jazz trumpeter.

Life

Jones, a friend since childhood with Nathan Davis, attended by four years of residence in the army ( where he also conducted a private Quintet ) University of Kansas, whose teaching methods led him to study termination. Horace Silver told by him that he had been based on Clifford Brown, whose sound Carmells game really similar to Silver's quintet. He played with Eddie " Cleanhead " Vinson in Kansas and moved to the West Coast, where he played with Shelly Manne, Teddy Edwards, Buddy Collette and Bud Shank. From 1961 to 1964 he was a member of the band by Harold Land, but also played with Howard Rumsey's Lighthouse All-Stars and the orchestra by Gerald Wilson. In 1964 he became a member of the band by Horace Silver, where he stayed for one year. On the jazz label Pacific Jazz released 1961-1963 albums under his own name. Jones went to Europe in 1965; he became a member of the dance orchestra of Sender Freies Berlin and played in the quintet of John Rediske and later by Heinz von Hermann. In Berlin, he has also performed with Quincy Jones, Don Ellis, Dave Pike and Stan Kenton. In June 1980 he returned to Kansas City.

Throughout his career, Carmell Jones took on to plates with Sarah Vaughan, Charles McPherson, Herbie Mann, Booker Ervin, Gerald Wilson, Red Mitchell, Jean -Luc Ponty, George Gruntz, Oliver Nelson and Jay McShann.

His Born in Berlin in 1971, daughter of jazz and soul singer Stella Jones, lived in Vienna since 1977.
