Carmelo Bossi

Carmelo Bossi ( * October 15, 1939 in Milan, † March 23, 2014 ) was an Italian light middleweight boxer.

Amateur

In 1959 he occupied at the European Championships in Lucerne second place in the welterweight; there he lost the final battle against Poland Leszek Drogosz.

Bossi then won at the Olympic Games in Rome in 1960, the silver medal in the light middleweight. In the final he defeated while the Americans Wilbert McClure.

Professional career

Only in 1961, he joined the professional camp. In October 1965 he became Italian champion in the welterweight and defended that title once. European welterweight champion, he was in May 1967 through a points victory over the Frenchman Jean Josselin. After he successfully defended the title in August against the British, John Cooke, he tried in November on world title at welterweight. In Johannesburg he met the South African Willie Ludick who had just defeated him once before, and also lost this fight on points. European champion he remained after the title defense May 1968 against his old opponent Jean Josselin. However, in August the same year he lost the European title to the Dutchman Edwin "Fighting Mack " Arthur for a knockout blow in the tenth round. The project to retrieve this item, failed in April 1970 at the Austrian Hans Orsolics, who defeated him on points.

His move into the light middleweight paid off in the very next fight. At Monza he defeated in July 1970, the Americans Fred Little and became world champion after WBA and WBC version. Against the Spaniard José Hernández Bossi was able to defend his title with a draw in April 1971. However, in October he had to give up both belts at the Japanese Koichi Wajima. This was the reason for Bossi to end his boxing career.
