Carmen is a Philippine municipality in the province of Bohol on the homonymous island. It has 43 579 inhabitants ( census May 1, 2010 ).

Attractions

Carmen is especially known for the Chocolate Hills (→ Main article: Chocolate Hills ). These cone-shaped limestone hills whose height varies between 40 and 120 meters, created millions of years ago in a region which was then in a shallow water area. Coral and other sea creatures embedded in flow and growth-related sectors from their remains. After the level of the sea level, various elevations and depressions of the soil, caused by subduction and secondary volcanic events, the material came to the surface. The erosion began their game and created in this way the impressive hills.

In Barangay Buenos Aires is the Chocolate Hill Complex. This visitor center is located on one of the Chocolate Hills, and is reached by a road that winds up around the hill halfway up. There is a restaurant, a conference room, a hostel with a swimming pool and several souvenir shops. A comprehensive over 200 steps staircase leads completely up to the summit of the hill, from which offers a 360 degree view of the surrounding Chocolate Hills.
