The Carney Island (English Carney Iceland ) is a facility located in the Southern Ocean, ice-covered, rugged and glaciated island off the west coast of the Antarctic mainland. The uninhabited island with an area of ​​about 8,500 km ² in the ice shelf is relatively close to the coast of the region Bakutis Marie Byrd Land.

Who the island when discovered, is uncertain. Presumably the time of the first discovery between the years 1955 and 1959, when the U.S. by their U.S. Navy (see: Operation Deep Freeze ) examined the coastal areas of Antarctica in detail.
