Caro Dawes

Caro Dana Dawes, born Blymyer (* January 6, 1866; † October 3, 1957 ) was the wife of Charles Gates Dawes, the U.S. Vice President under Calvin Coolidge and thereby Second Lady of the United States.

Caro Blymyer married in 1889 Charles Dawes. They had two children and adopted two more. After the death of her son Rufus in 1912, the Daweses withdrew from social life and instead devoted much of their energies charity work. During her tenure as Second Lady, disappointed Dawes the social elite of Washington, DC, because she refused many invitations society. Nevertheless, it was observed that their "Art was sweet and gentle, cultivated their conversations and their dignity inviolable" ( "manner what sweet and gentle, her conversation cultured, and her dignity unimpeachable ").

Dawes died in 1957 and is buried with her husband in Rose Hill Cemetery.
