Carol Corbu

Carol Corbu ( born February 8, 1946 in Văleni - Podgoria, county Arges ) is a retired Romanian triple jumper. He won two medals at the European Championships and five medals at the European Indoor Championships.

Career

Corbu jumped in 1969 with the still unofficial European Indoor Championships, the European Indoor Games in Belgrade, 16.20 m and thus finished third behind Nikolai Dudkin from the Soviet Union and the Hungarian Zoltan Cziffra. In the outdoor season, 1969, he won the first of eight Romanian championship titles in the triple jump, 1975, he also won the long jump. In the outdoor European Championships 1969 in Athens Corbu jumped mweit with wind support 16.56 and took fourth place behind Viktor Sanejew from the Soviet Union, the Hungarian Cziffra and Klaus Neumann from the GDR. 1970 in Vienna were the first official European Indoor Championships ( Indoor Championships ) held 16.35 m Corbu took sixth place.

1971 at the European Indoor Championships in Sofia jumped Viktor Sanejew and Carl Corbu both 16,83 m wide, Sanejew received the gold medal, as each of his other five trials was more than Corbu's second best jump. In the outdoor European Championships 1971 in Helsinki Jörg Drehmel won from East Germany, behind Sanejew took Corbu with 16,87 m third place. As in the previous Corbu received the silver medal with 16.89 meters, it was eight inches behind Sanejew also at the European Indoor Championships in 1972 in Grenoble. At the Olympic Games in Munich in 1972 Sanejew won his second gold medal after 1968; behind Jörg Drehmel and Brazilian Nelson Prudencio took Corbu with 16.85 m in fourth place. His only international gold medal ersprang Corbu at the European Indoor Championships in 1973 in Rotterdam. With 16,80 m he had five centimeters ahead of Poland Michał Joachimowski.

At the 1974 European Indoor Championships in Gothenburg Corbu occurred after the tenth place in the long jump competition not for the triple jump. In the outdoor European Championships 1974 in Rome Corbu had with 16,68 m, although 55 centimeters behind Viktor Sanejew, but nevertheless won the silver medal ahead of Poland Andrzej Sontag, Drehmel and Joachimowski took places four and five. As in the previous year in Gothenburg Corbu was also at the European Indoor Championships 1975 in Katowice without a medal: 16.66 m he was fourth in the triple jump, the day after he arrived in the long jump with 7.64 meters to fifth place. At the European Indoor Championships in Munich in 1976 Corbu was achieved with 16.75 m of the jump to the silver medal behind Viktor Sanejew, with the 17.10 m but again had a substantial lead. In the outdoor season Sanejew won at the Olympic Games in 1976 his third gold medal, Corbu documented in Montreal with 16,43 m eighth. At the end of his career Corbu succeeded at the European Indoor Championships 1978 in Milan with 16,41 m once again a fourth place at the outdoor European Championships 1978 in Prague, he finished with 16,02 m the fourteenth place.

At a height of 1.97 m Corbu had a competition weight of 85 kg.
